A GRP flat roof, or fiberglass roof as it’s also known, is one of the most popular flat roofing solutions in the UK and it is also one of our most popular forms of flat roofing systems. GRP stands for Glass Reinforced Polyester, a composite material formed by strengthening plastic with fine fibres made of glass.
This single ply laminate has been used as a reliable method of covering and waterproofing roofs for over 60 years, although it’s popularity has soared in recent years due to new systems such as GRP cure it.
The installation of a GRP roofing system is highly regarded for its simplicity and safety, while the finished product it produces is recognised as having a lifespan that easily betters that of a traditional felt roof.
The method of the installation of a GRP flat roof:
- Strip off and removal of the existing flat roof
- Re board the entire roof space with new 8×2 OSB3 tongue & groove boards (Specially made edge trims and drip trims are fitted to the edges of the roof and abutments before any GRP is laid down).
- To apply first coat of GRP cure it catalysed resin
- To place a second layer of fibreglass matting available in two options 450gm or 600gm
- To apply a second coat of GRP cure it catalysed resin
- To finish with a final coat of GRP cure it fire retardant top coat resin (in a colour of the customers choice)
At JDL we provide a 25 year guarantee with any GRP installation.
